![]() You could not join multiplayer missions if they had not made story progress, or watch the required scenes needed to be summoned into the hunt. This system came with its share of flaws, however. This made the mission structure much more seamless and uniform, as you only needed to make progress through a single quest chain to get to the end-game hunts. The previous series entry, Monster Hunter World, merged the multiplayer aspects with the story, letting players summon friends or random players into their hunt to tackle monsters together. Monster Hunter Rise segregates its hunt missions between single player and multiplayer quests. There is a visual effects option in the menu, but it doesn't have a significant impact an option to turn off other player effects would have been a nice addition. Multiplayer action transforms battles into a cartoonish fight cloud of effects where its hard to see what's happening. With all these systems in place, from your animal buddies, to collectable tools, to Wirebug movement, to Silkbind attacks, things can get a bit hectic during hunts, particularly from the visual effects obscuring the action. With the new Wyvern Riding system, you can take advantage of these rivalries to puppeteer monsters to counter the beasts that haunt Rise’s various locales. Rise incorporates World's Turf War system that sees rival monsters roam and encroach on one another’s territory, instigating fights. You can crash it into walls to daze it, but you can also use this system to fight other monsters. Your hunter leaps onto the monster’s back, and your Wirebugs bind its limbs, letting you manipulate the monster like a puppet for a short while (or as long as the beast has stamina). Once you’re prompted to mount them, however, the system radically changes. Silkbind Attacks weaken monsters in the same way that jumping attacks did in earlier games, leaving them in a prone state. Monster Hunter 4 and World's mounting mechanic has been replaced with Wyvern Riding. Featuring 14 weapon types and numerous Silkbind Attacks for each, plus bonus unlockable ones later in the game, Monster Hunter Rise has many tools to utilize and master. It reinforces your defense and rapidly charges your special gauge when you successfully block attacks. Charge Blade gets a Silkbind called Peak Performance that anchors your shield to the ground with silk. With this tether in place, you can launch yourself at the monster from great distances, giving you a safe and potent gap-closing maneuver. For example, the Lance has a Silkbind Attack called Twin Vine that tethers you to your target monster with silk. These skills let you utilize the Wirebugs to either reinforce attacks or propel you in new ways. In addition, Wirebugs are also used in Rise’s new Silkbind Attacks. Thanks to the Wirebugs' expanded mobility, you can effectively perform leaping attacks with all weapons.
